A couple things

First off and most importantly: Thank you. All of you who’ve written, commented, called on the phone (hi, Kat!). I’ve read every single one of your notes with profound emotion. This is no exaggeration. Some of you close friends from real life, some of you people I’ve never heard of, all of you have made this experience a bit more bearable. The downside of leaving the job is that I don’t see people every day, and I don’t know what kind of state I’d be in without you — and Zeke definitely benefits from your support of his sniveling human. I’ll be getting back to each of you who’ve sent notes or left them. If you think your blog comments are throwing stones down a well, as I sometimes do: those stones splash big. I owe you. So do Zeke and Becky.

Secondly, and with far broader import: The John Edwards for President campaign has done something brilliant: they’ve hired Amanda Marcotte to wrangle their campaign blogs. As a result, she’s anticipating needing to cut back on her time spent writing for Pandagon, though thankfully not entirely. In order to take up the slack, she’s raided the Creek Running North regulars roster. Auguste, Ilyka Damen, Sheelzebub, and Roxanne Populi have been added to the author list over there, with Amanda and the wonderful Pam Spaulding. Also, for some reason Amanda has seen fit to give me the keys to the place too. I can use the being-kept-busy-while-at-home, I think.

I'm sorry, but the comment period for this entry has ended.

It’s good to hear the comments are not just going down a well, because we all care very deeply.

Wow - that’s huge news about Amanda and you and Roxanne and Pandagon. Thanks for the update. Big-time congrats to the Edwards team! They scored!

I’ve kept quiet out of online habit, and out of fear that whatever I have to say won’t be enough, but my heart goes out to you.

It’s never easy to lose someone you love, but it’s always meant something to me that the people I’ve lost (animals included) have had better lives for me being in them--and anyone who visits here knows that’s the case for Zeke and you.

But Rox is quitting her own blog, and that makes me very sad.

Just adding my thoughts to the rest. I’ve been checking in to see how things are going, but have been stretched thin with work so haven’t left a note. I went through this with two dogs, one that I had to take to be put to sleep after a brief illness and the other who was sick for months and the decision looming, with up days and down—she finally had the good luck (certainly for me) to die peacefully at home with me there. It’s not easy to know what to do and it’s constant anxiety. So my thoughts are with you, and whatever happens it’s peaceful and feels right.

I’ve given a lot of thought to why I, and so many others, care so much about a dog and a human we’ve never met.  I’m sure it’s because your writing opens a vein for us all, lets us know how much you love this furry being and helps us see how much the furry beings and other loved ones have meant to all of us over the years.  So my point is, thank you for your writing.

He must be a smart guy: he just picked Amanda Marcotte to run the John Edwards blog. And since Amanda will be slightly distracted, she's brought in five (it takes five people to take Amanda's place?) new people to…
