Bad news comes in large doses

... but there is good news that comes in dribs and drabs , and this drib takes place a hundred feet from Pinole Creek.

I love the way this project sounds. I hope it happens.

Pinole park land slated to be community garden

PINOLE — A wedge-shaped piece of land in Fernandez Park once seen as a skate park will become an intergenerational community garden, the Pinole City Council has decided.

Recreation Manager Amy Wooldridge said the garden will teach young people to grow food. Volunteers from the nearby Pinole Senior Center will help out to share their botanical savvy with the young people.

“It’s going to be a challenge, but very much fun,” said Senior Center board member Sam Shannon.

Among the various things that I’ve thought of during my “buying a house” fantasies has been the idea of getting a place and a vacant lot next door and starting a community garden, thereby singlehandedly saving the City of Buffalo. Or something.

Then I look around me and remember that I have trouble taking out the trash because it means putting clothes on… so I don’t guess it’s gonna happen anytime soon.

Oh, heavens, Craig, THAT’S no problem.  First of all, nude gardening is all the rage in Western NY because we have to soak up the Vitamin D during the 27.4 days during the year that we have the chance.  Second, you contact an organization (Urban League probably would know where to go) and say “I have a lot.  Would you like to use it for a community garden?  I’ll get it cleared and tilled, and after that, it’s all yours.  Enjoy.”

So the fate of Buffalo rests in your hands.
