I'm sorry, but the comment period for this entry has ended.

Why are alfalfa snacks forbidden? And if they are, why are you keeping them RIGHT THERE? Seems awfully mean:)

Thistle is such a pretty bunny. I really want to pet that so-soft looking fur and scritch between those floppy ears.

I was walking past the pet store next door and they have a load of cute bunnies in stock now. They probably don’t have a great future ahead of them though.

Thier batch of ferrets is down to one lonely guy now — he just mopes without his playmates.

Alfalfa snacks are “forbidden” — we ration them strictly — because they really have too much nutrient value — protein and minerals — for a bunny to eat a lot of them. Leads to kidney problems, potentially. also weight gain. They’re right there because we give him a few pieces every fewdays, and he’s never shown interest in the bags before.

That is SO cute. Thistle is a doll. VERY soft.

I was teasing you. I wouldn’t let the cats have a whole bag of those revolting little dried fish they like all at once (partly because they would hoard some for later so that I would find little piles of dessicated fishies in unlikely places when I finally clean my house), or the “cat mints” that come in the little Altoids-like tin ("Liver Flavor! Freshens Breath!” How something liver-flavored could possibly freshen your breath I have no idea. But Tira loves them.)

It’s always funny when somebody decides to go all out for the forbidden treat. I remember one memorable dinner a couple days after Thanksgiving when our usually demure and gentlemanly cat Jasper made an unexpected play for the enormous turkey leg on my brother’s plate. He captured it too-got it halfway across the living room and hoovered down a big chunk before we could react. It was quite a noble effort-the thing was bigger than his head.

See now, if you were god, you’d kick the little guy out of Eden.  He’s tasted of the forbidden bagged snack — which you left right out in the open for him to find.

A simple, heavenly moment in a bunny’s life. All the yumminess of the world found in a bag, right at the tip of his tongue.

Too funny. I found a cat in a similar position earlier today! She looked a lot guiltier than the rabbit though.

Cutest. Pictures. Ever.  Oh what a cute, cute, bunny!

I have a friend who had a dog who managed to get to his forbidden treats which were on top of the fridge, behind a big heavy bowl, and in a jar with a lid.  And the dog did this all without knocking anything off the top of the fridge!  Seriously!

Hee.  I especially love his expression when he’s been caught.

I could tell a lot of tales about pets snarfling forbidden treats. One of the more amusing was the time someone in our family baked a cornbread, left it out to cool, and came back to discover it raked with claw marks and surrounded by crumbs (though largely still intact).

Yeah, Thistle doesn’t look all that startled at having been caught with her muzzle in the bag.

You just can’t get mad at them.  Just the other night one of my cats, Penelope, was found on the dinner table calmly lapping away at the fresh, cool, filtered water in the pitcher that was nominally for us.  She just can’t resist that filtered water.  So much better than the stuff in her bowl which always seems to get food and cat litter in it within seconds of me giving it to them.

So did you let him go on eating while you got your camera, or did you happen to have it right there? And how many shots did you get in before he heard you? And how do you scold a rabbit, anyway?

It’s so good to see Thistle is up and around!… and, um, getting into trouble.  He must be feeling pretty robust to go illicit snack hunting :)

THISTLE!!!
