Civic duties, and cetera

toast.gif

Another food-related image having nothing to do with Scott Eric Kaufman.

This always happens. I endorse a candidate based on merit. And then it turns out that merit doesn’t hold much sway with the electorate, that the electorate is more interested in electing someone who is electable, an process that is blatantly Ouroborousian if not in fact omphaloskeptical.

Scott deserves to win the Weblog Awards “Best Of The Top 2501-3500 Blogs” category, but he is up against a massive campaign by fans of the Free Republic to push one particular right-wing blog, and in a tough, competitive field. His victory is not at all certain.

And so, in the spirit of pragmatic electoral Realpolitick, we here at CRN are forced to withdraw our endorsement of Acephalous. We urge you not to let the perfect be the enemy of the acceptable. Vote for the lesser of two evils. Help (the less worthy) (but more electable) Creek Running North maintain its current lead.

The Freepers’ short attention span has worked in CRN’s favor thus far: the contest is well down the list, and most of the Freepers probably drifted over to Conservapedia before they got that far. But Monday will bring new traffic, and CRN’s current lead is by no means secure.

You can vote once a day.

If CRN wins, we promise 1) not to clutter up the layout with badges boasting that we won, and 2) to give Dave Bonta space to write about how meaningless such popularity contests are. It’s also possible that a mild and temporary post-win boost in traffic will provide us with one or two new regulars to keep us company. We’d all enjoy that, I think.

It’s a meaningless exercise, but so are sudoku, and we like to complete those too. Go vote!

OK, done.

But: “Vote for the lesser of two evils”? I find it hard to accept that description of either of these blogs.

Splendid! I’ll vote for you, then.

whole-wheat toast will get more votes than pan bimbo!

It occurs to me that it’ll be difficult to cede my votes.  My only choice, then, would be to convince the judges that Acephalous and Creek Running North are the same blog.  Problem is, I know nothing about nature ... but they probably don’t either.

Be right back.

This ought to fool them.

I’ll toast your candidacy with some votes. But how about a few more campaign promises? Power to the people.

Is it too late to nominate CRN for best community?  I’d vote a million times for that if I could.

Aren’t those the little forest spirits from Princess Mononoke?

Agreed.  This blog is definitely one of the greater evils.

seeing michelle malkin up for “best blog” pretty much made me ill.  but i’m happy to see that her early surge dwindled off to the “good luck with your future career” realm.
