Connectivity

I haven’t gone away, despite this site’s nonexistence from about 3 am on. My ISP is merely having a few problems.

One advantage to going with a mom-n-pop ISP: I notice a problem, I pick up the phone, a guy answers, and he’s not only the lead technical staff but also the owner of the company. Try that with blogspot or typepad.

And this is the first spate of problems in more than a year.

I'm sorry, but the comment period for this entry has ended.

We just switched our ISP (that’s why we were down yesterday). When we lived in Santa Cruz, we always used a local ISP, but when we moved to Washington, we made a quick decision to just go with the ISP that our telephone service/DSL provider had a deal with. That turned out to be MSN. We never had a problem with it, but we prefer keeping local mom-n-pop services in business. There is definitely something to be said for being able to pick up the phone, call a local person, explain the problem, and have them call you back with answers.

We still use blogspot, but when that goes down, we just shrug and do something else until they’ve fixed the problem. There’s no way to really contact them for problem-solving.
