Episcopal corner

Never let it be said that this blog refuses to provide service to the religious among us.

Important information: Via a commenter at Doghouse Riley’s blog Bats Left Throws Right comes the news that one can sing The Doxology to the tune of Hernando’s Hideaway.

You’re welcome.

I'm sorry, but the comment period for this entry has ended.

I was raised Episcopalian, so this would no doubt be hysterical if I could only remember what “Hernando’s Hideaway” sounded like.

I heard the “Emily Dickinson-Yellow Rose of Texas” factoid also cited on that blog while in high school.  It ruined my enjoyment of her poetry for many years.

Well, something had to ruin your enjoyment of Dickinson, so it might as well have been that.

“one can sing The Doxology to the tune of Hernando’s Hideaway” — Gee, Chris, you mean you didn’t already know this tidbit? Our choir has blessed many a potluck with that tune. (Bone: if it helps, try this, in a clipped rhythm: da-DA, da-DA, da DA-DA-DA — “I KNOW/her-NAN/do’s hide-a-way — “Praise GOD/ from WHOM/ all (fast)ble-ssings-flow/Praise HIM/ all CREE/chers here below...) Yeah. Back to work.

Well, Beth, as you know I was raised Roman Catholic, which is completely different.
