I would hold your head for ever on my shoulder, were you willing.

February 2, 2007, 7:30 PM

I would rend my back so that you would not need yours.

February 2, 2007, 7:30 PM

I would grasp this moment like a thistle. I would make my hand bleed in its grasping.

Your burden light as thistle down. I would bear it for you if I could, old friend.

Go in peace and love, Zeke.

I am so, so sorry for your loss. I haven’t commented before, but I’m a longtime reader of your blog, and I have followed Zeke’s story.

If it’s ok with you, I’d like to name the next male dog I foster “Zeke.”

Sleep well, Zeke.

Frequent but heretofore silent reader.  I’m afraid I’m weeping now.

What a magnificent dog.  And I’ve never seen such splendid ears.

Peace and healing to you.

A Silly Idea?

Maybe, if you have a chance . . .

If you can sing to him like you used to,
he just might hear you, just a bit.

And, you probably smell a little different while
you coo at him, even if he can’t understand
the words.

Perhaps this will become a small comfort to you all in these difficult hours for your family.

With best wishes and sympathy

Love’s never wasted.  Be well, Chris.  As arse poetica said, you’re lucky to have had each other.

There is nothing more painful than the suffering of others.  I feel for Zeke, for you, for Becky.  Such a loving family…I’m so glad this wonderful dog has you.

blogs don’t usually make me cry (scream with anger is more normal), but i have been a lurking zeke-lover for quite a while ...you three are all in my thoughts. love like that is something very special to have had.

This poem came to mind looking at the timeless face of Zeke.

“I asked for a kiss. You gave me six. Whose pupil were you to become such a master? Full of kindness, generosity… You are not of this world.â€? Rumi

But you - and Becky - have been part of him from that very first day on.
I hope you can find peace in this sad time.

Peace to Zeke and to you and Becky. Gratitude for sharing so much of your journey - your Zeke posting over the past year has been an inspiration.

I’m so sorry.  I lost my very best buddy at the beginning of last month.

It hurts.  I know.
