I delivered a letter of resignation to my boss today.
Posted by: Chris Clarke
Chris, if you wanted to leave Earth Island for other reasons, then congratulations. But if you resigned simply to take care of Zeke, then I hope very much your boss will have the sense to simply allow you this time as a sabbatical.
I think pet-care time should be taken as seriously as family-care time, and in my last job I had the good fortune to enjoy that. When my dog Katie was a puppy I announced that I needed to work at home for several weeks to train and care for her, and I did. When she became seriously ill, my office schedule revolved around my trips to the vet with her and the days I needed to spend at home with her.
I realize that most people don’t have that kind of luxury at their jobs, not even to take care of a family member, so I’m not bragging. Just citing my example as proof that it’s not outrageous, that it *is* done, and it’s perfectly workable. Basically I was given the same flexibility that was granted to other people in my office who had sick children or parents to take care of. That’s how it should be.

Guys, you might not be familiar
with this particular language.
It’s C (heart)(heart)
—difficult to render properly in
good ol’ ASCII.
But perfect for our four-footed friends.
And highly forgiving of declaration
errors and other syntactical sins.

It’s C (heart)(heart)
Oh yeah. I’ve heard it’s unmatched at memory allocation as well.

OK, for some reason (related to blog retirement?) I’ve been unable to squeeze through the Intertubes to read this blog for the last ten days. So, late to the letter-of-resignation / In-N-Out burger party, but cheers and good luck and best wishes to Zeke. You know, that is a tasty burger.

So hard, but I know you have the heart for it. You are lucky to have each other.
Best wishes to you both.

Aside to Xopher:
Yeah, “ C♥♥ “
I should have guessed that
Unicode characters would be
allowed here.
Apparently, we’re also going to get
a “Trader Joe’s” too here in Pinole,
a town chock-full of colorful characters.
Maybe next door will come a
“Hottie McNaturepants’s”
bookstore and garden center.
