Tree lichen, not altogether yummy on its own, but while i was at Bioneers, Jack Nisbet was talking about how the local tribal groups make really fine nutritious soup out of it-- kunch (sp).  Seems that the black lichen growing on certain pines is the most preferred but there are other herbs and tubers that make the other lichen useful and tasteworthy.  We all need to learn how to eat more from our natural environments, eh??
