Our Mojave deserter

Congratulations to Chris on some well-deserved recognition of beautiful writing and well-nurtured community.

The commenting community here truly is an unusual treasure - with the occasional loathsome exception. So, in an IM this morning, Chris asked me to remind visitors that “trolling is off-topic in any thread, discussion of Coalie is on-topic in any thread.”

I’ll stomp trolls as necessary while our host is away, and I know all the regulars are already thinking of Charles and Coalie.

Be welcome.

Chris will be back after the weekend.

I'm sorry, but the comment period for this entry has ended.

I’ll stomp trolls

As part of PATS or People Against Troll Stomping I am here to provide a gentle reminder that trolls are a valuable and necessary part of our ecosystem.

trolls are part of the ecosystem who have earned the right to live outdoors.  plenty of habitat elsewhere.

As a founding member of PEST (People for the Ethical Stomping of Trolls), I hear your concerns, Jack.

I would like to assure you that the stomping will be done humanely, and will finally benefit the larger systems, ugly as the stomp itself must be (though I will do it as quickly and quietly as dial up allows).

Think of me as the wolf culling the sick from the herd. You know, the sick like the ones celebrating the oil spill. And if there are moments of schadenfreude in the stomp, I blame Chris for sending me this this morning.

Damn. I just used THAT word.

Almost as bad as ‘framing.’

Somebody stomp me.

*stomp*

*grin*

I’m glad to see you at the helm, Theriomorph.  We can make gentle fun of Chris with you here, while secretly burning with envy at his escape to the drylands.

Phew. Thanks, Rana. Needed that.

geez, theriomorph—i played that clip and scared the feral kittens i’m supposed to be socializing.  [good thing they only heard the audio.]

kathy a, I know.

Gives new meaning to the phrase ‘trigger warning,’ doesn’t it.

The e-faun is back! most excellent.

That’s a heckuva piece of video.  In the past couple of weeks, I have personally encountered three (3) bucks whilst perambulating in the ‘hood, none of whom were in the least bit timid.  In fact they were pretty durn testosterone high, and willing to challenge even lil ole me.  I detoured, though getting around the one in the front yard was pretty inconvenient.

‘Tis the season sans reason (though AFAIK there are no hunters here in the residential areas of the SF Bay peninsula—at least, not legal ones).

Official deer hunting season starts here tomorrow at dawn. People have been shooting at them (and moose, and turkey, and hikers and dogs in orange from head to toe) for weeks already, but it’s legal as of tomorrow. So I can’t help celebrating this buck’s win, on behalf of my local friends.

Speaking of deer - everyone has probably seen this (in fact, someone here may have linked it), but it bears repeating.

You people really are wonderful.  It’s meant so much over the last week to get the email notifications when someone has responded to the original thread about Coalie.

There’s not much new to report about him; we can see a decline in him already but he’s still hanging in there.  Thanks to all of you for your kind thoughts and wishes.

Sending virtual sweet potato treats to Coalie, Charles. Gilly nearly cried from overwhelmed glee when he tasted them - if Coalie’s appetite is okay, he might enjoy them.

Also sending comfort to you.

The Pests are the reason that we ended up with the Great Troll War of 2000. You may recall that the reason we went to war was in search of the TMD, or Trolls of Mass Destruction.

The TMDs were never found and years later the war continues to rage.

This is why we need a PATS President.

All this talk of troll-stomping and deer hunting.

I miss the kind, gentle days when we all sat down together and just talked about toast.

This is where a delegate from the Toast party comes in and makes an argument against the two-party system currently paralyzing our democracy, isn’t it.

The Burnt Toast party- those scoundrels.
