Stained glass, stained hands

Butuki posted something in comments over on Beth’s blog that I’ve been using as a signature in my work email:

“Every day I fight against the hardening of my heart.”

Some days, that’s a bigger fight than others. Some days, I recoil in horror at the latest news. As jaded as I am, the forces of ignorance and greed and stupidity in this country still surprise me with their ability to lower the discourse yet another rung.

I think it’s long past time to apply the same metric as was used on Muslims post-9/11. This outrage is perpetrated in the name of Christ? Well then, Christians of good heart who fail to publicly denounce this are complicit in it. Remaining silent is material support of this evil.

I'm sorry, but the comment period for this entry has ended.

That is just mean.  Mean both as in cruel and as in impoverished of spirit.

Things like that make me glad I’m not a Christian; it’d be too soul-wrenching to know that people like that lay claim to my faith and are assumed by others to speak for me.

*sigh* The bigots are bold these days, aren’t they?

Amen, Rana. At times I feel the world has started rotating the other way (remember Superman?) and regressed into the 1800’s. I envision huge bill boards with Soviet and Nazi style paintings depicting the Great Empire and Ubermenschen. America seems totally insane these days. And shame on those, like the Japanese government, who follow in its footsteps.

It is very hard to fathom what is going on in the minds of those who would destroy what the gay community has fought so long to gain. And it is even harder to fathom those who would fight against “God’s” creations… gay people are as much a part of this world as anything else.
