The Wily And Elusive Desert Bighorn Sheep

Found it! This is both one of my favorite photos of me and one of the most troubling. Bright Angel Trail, October 1992. People were feeding her M&Ms.

Note: A database glitch in 2008 ate a bunch of archived comments. Don't be offended if yours isn't here, or confused if the conversation seems disjointed. Thanks!

Hey, I used to wear one of those dorktastic hats! But mine was in camo, so the tortoises couldn’t see me coming.

Well hell, how else is a wild mammal without opposable thumbs or a pocket for change going to get M&Ms;?

Reese’s Pieces, off-thread comment:

Given the CRN community, I surely was the last to watch the Clay Shirky speech posted at Making Light:  http://nielsenhayden.com/makinglight/archives/010186.html#010186

Shirky terms the creation of free on-line content as a “vast civic surplus.” I recently had occasion to review the entire CRN archive, when my nfp BREAD FOR THE HEAD commissioned a CRN podcast. Shirky’s description nails (pins gently to a display board?) what Chris has produced here: a public good.

BREAD’s commission will have Chris read some extant pieces, to inspire kids during a summer nature/science day camp. It will be an attainable luxury for my kids, who live in areas not readily amenable to author visits.

I cannot imagine, however, that CRN podcasts would not enliven children/young adult programs anywhere, whether focused on nature/environment or writing itself. I hope that anyone else aware of such programs considers/advocates/makes similar commissions.

Remember: all of your dollars otherwise will be spent accruing frequent flier miles for the Gitmo port-a-court.

Next question: Mojave podcasts by subscription?
