In the synchronicity department, Goldstein has a couple of likeminded machobots who’ve just been summarily chucked from our Oz version of B*g Br*ther for holding down a female housemate while one of the guys allegedly slapped her face with his penis.

It’s so not a funny joke to threaten someone with that, and yet Goldstein still shrugs off any criticism of that months later.

But seriously, apropos the Big Brother thing . . . It’s appalling straight out, of course, but it’s also insidious in the fact that it is bizarre and, as you pointed out in your (tigtog’s) blog, wholly stupid on the part of the men. I hate that its strangeness and idiocy will inevitably deflect attention from the coercion and desire to humiliate the woman. It courts laughter in place of anger.

Apparently the BB execs are trying to decide whether to shut the show down after this or not.  The woman is getting a lot of kudos for shrugging it off as no big deal, but she wants to win the dosh, so of course she’s trying to put a good face on it.  Lots of people are saying to close it down and get her some counselling - it will be interesting to see which way they jump.

Virginia wine? Is that like a punishment of some kind?
