Sad news involving Macho B, the jaguar recently collared and re-released in southern Arizona. Unfortunately, the big cat had to be euthanized today after veterinarians determined that he was in severe and unrecoverable kidney failure, a common ailment in older cats.
“It is a sad, but appropriate course of action to euthanize this animal given the hopelessly terminal nature of his condition,” Steve Spangle, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Arizona field supervisor, said in a press release.

Crap.
How beautiful he was.

RIP Macho B.
Heard today morning via CBD notification email. Saddened, but it was at least to reduce his suffering.
Rest in peace.
This made me cry…for the loss and for the humanity of intervention.
What a beautiful creature indeed…
It turned out to be a seriously lucky break for Macho B they’d just collared him. I usually think wild animals deserve the dignity of a wild death but kidney failure is not an easy way to go, nor a dignified one.
There are a lot of wildlife folks in Southern AZ who are having a very bad day over this, Coyote bless ‘em.
He’d been better off without that fucking collar around his neck!
Looks like you were right and I was wrong, RexDog.
