You’re talking about Jonah Goldberg?  It’s the kind of crap I expect from someone like that.

Man, there is so much on that site that is full of crap that it’s hard for me to pick out the one you were referencing.  (Like the fool of a woman who used this as a way to get in a sexist dig at Hillary Clinton.)

I’ve noticed a lot of this on blogs by people in or around New Orleans during this storm, most of whom seem to be right wing.

There’s a glee at the breakdown of society thinly masked by the contempt they have for the poor and unfortunate people who find themselves in bad situations.

The right-wingers who stayed behind also have a contempt for government and a stirring for vigilante action. They spend much of their time complaining about the breakdown of law and order, but they contribute to it by second-guessing the authorities and refusing to comply with government orders to leave the area. And some of them are talking, hopefully idly, about taking matters into their own hands.

It all seems to be part of a larger end-of-the-world fantasy, and they see themselves as the Rambo-like heroes. But they’re just as much a part of the problem as the worst of the looters.
