Some Itemy Things

ITEM: For a long time I’ve used “crn@faultline.org” as a sort of default email account for the public. Every so often I’ve considered getting rid of it, as the account’s spam percentage builds and the address itself makes less and less sense. (CRN= Creek Running North, a blog that has been dead since early 2008.) That spam has included the usual stuff as well as press releases for things that would never get mentioned on my site in a million years.  In the last couple months, however, the address has been getting unsolicited mail from ultraconservative groups and other such types, and the number of lies I can read first thing in the morning is rather limited.

So I’m nuking that address this week. If that’s the address you have for me and you want the new one, holler. In comments here will work just fine.

ITEM: If you, like an increasing number of people, spend more time in the walled garden of Facebook than in the other 99.999982% of the web, you may be interested to hear that I’ve set up this site’s very own Facebook Page. Go hit “like,” then tell every single one of your friends to do the same. Except the ones that don’t like sites like this, of course. We wouldn’t want to spam anyone.

ITEM: A number of readers responded generously to my little fundraising appeal a month ago, and thank you. Let’s just say that late February would have been extremely uncomfortable without your kind help.  Just now I received rather belated notification from PayPal of some earlier contributions. I’ve been sending thank you email notes as promptly as I can, so that’s a bit annoying. If you tossed some money in the can and haven’t heard from me yet in email, it’s likely that I haven’t yet gotten the nod from PayPal, which is certainly earning every bit of the enmity I’ve layered on them over the last decade. I apologize.

ITEM: This is what’s known in the journamalism trade as “burying the lede,” but it’s shaping up to be a wonderful wildflower year in the southern California desert, and it occurs to me that it would be nice to do some sort of desert wildflower meetup. Southern California readers and friends may find this of especial interest, but the invitation is extended to all. I’ll be scoping out good places to have a picnic among the flowers and get back to everyone, but feel free to express your interest — and maybe even suggest venues — here.

Fun Fact: Did you know that “wildflowers” is one of the words I type wrongly most often? It always comes out “wildlflowers” or something. You’d think I’d get that word right.
