The Ghost Plums of Evolution

As long as I’m digging old impromptu poems out of comments from years back and giving them pride of place, I might as well do this one, which was in a comment here. Which post also provides context in case you don’t know right offhand what a Maclura is and why it’s relevant.

And yes, everyone and his grandblogger has satirized WCW’s icebox note, and it’s a very old and tired joke. Believe me. I know. I’ve even done it before in mixed media. Forgive me. It was so trite and so old.

This is just to say

I have not eaten
the Maclura
that were in
the ice age

and which
were probably
counting
on seed dispersal

Forgive me
I was delicious
wild meat
in times cold
